Constanta Art Museum – Romania, Ruse Municipality – Bulgaria through the Art Gallery and the Lower Danube Museum, Calarasi – Romania, partners under the project SPIRIT OF DANUBE IN PORT COMMUNITIES, financed by the European Fund of Regional Development through the Cross-border Cooperation Program Romania – Bulgaria 2007-2013, organized during August and September of this year months, at Ostrov, the painting and sculpture art camp, attended by both artists from Romania and Bulgaria.
From Constanta participated three artists: Florin Ferendino, Lelia Rus-Pîrvan, Laura Nistorescu-Seniuc, from Calarasi: Victor Grigore, Mugur Coman and also five artists from Ruse, Bulgaria: Valentin Georgiev, Vyara Georgieva Guneva, Krasimira Kirilova, Rumen Mihailov, Irena Parashkevova.
Based on the experience and results of the previous project “Spirit of Danube”, implemented between 2008-2009, the new project SPIRIT OF DANUBE IN PORT COMMUNITIES aims to increase the visibility of the common cultural and geographic heritage on the Danube, to forge new economic and social ties in the Romanian-Bulgarian border region in order to raise awareness of the port communities regarding the exploitation of their mutual opportunities and to settle current issues on cross-border level.
The creation art camp location was chosen in the assent of the project, near the Danube spirit, playing the role of cross-border element built on the rich traditions and cultural heritage.
In an prolific environment to create and intercultural approach in the same time, Bulgarian and Romanian artists had a common starting point of inspiration and have combined the work in the studio with activities in "plein-air", trying to capture in their works the spirituality of the Danube River, which although it physically separates the two countries - Romania and Bulgaria - closes the gap between ports and stimulates the mutual respect and the understanding of the indissoluble connections.
Closing this gap will determine mutual trust and common interests, so the communities from the two cities will be able to work together in a sustainable way.
The artistic results of this art camp will be materialized during this autumn in a wide cross-cultural exhibition of paintings and small sculpture, without precedent.
If the launch of the exhibition will be organized in Constanta, at the Museum of Art, the two project partners, the Lower Danube Museum, Calarasi - Romania and the Municipality of Ruse - Bulgaria through Ruse Art Gallery, will host this unique cultural and artistic events on a floating pontoon on the Danube.
The SPIRIT OF DANUBE IN PORT COMMUNITIES project is still in process of implementation in the areas of Constanta, Calarasi and Ruse-Bulgaria, from 12.02.2013 until the 11.02.2014.
